About twenty fire- fighters battled the blaze yesterday morning at 6-38
Marshall Avenue in Old Southwest.
But not before an upstairs apartment was completely gutted.
No one was found inside, but a number of pets died in the fire.
Eight dogs and two cats were killed from smoke inhalation or burns.
Fire investigators suspect the blaze started on a mattress-- even though no
one was in the house.
