Southwest yesterday.

No one was found inside, but a number of pets died in the fire.
Eight dogs and two cats were killed from smoke inhalation or burns.
District One Chief Bev Mitchell says the cause has not been determined.

even though no one was in the house.

A Roanoke man has been arrested and charged with the arson of an occupied
dwelling.
Twenty- year- old Phillip Vincent Orren is charged with setting fire to a
home on 813 Patterson Avenue Tuesday night.
The fire caused heavy damage to the home.
Police are currently investigating a rash of fires in the southwest part of
Roanoke.
Eight empty buildings including two vacant homes and four garages have
burned in recent days.
Orren has not been charged in any of those fires.

Fire ended their lives on Saturday night, when intense flames spread from
an extension cord downstairs to the second floor apartment where the family
lived.
But for relatives and friends, cousins and classmates, there are other
enduring memories...

Evergreen Burial Park.
And there in donated spaces, the children were buried together... their
grandmother nearby.

About twenty fire- fighters put the flames out at 638 Marshall Avenue in Old
Southwest.
But not before an upstairs apartment was completely gutted.
No one was found inside, but a number of pets died in the fire.
Eight dogs and two cats were killed from smoke inhalation or burns.
District One Chief Bev Mitchell says the the cause hasn't been determined.
A number of fire- fighters at the scene think it started on a mattress--
even though no one was in the house.

The investigation of yet another fire in the city has led to the arrest of a
Roanoke man.

Twenty- year- old Phillip Vincent Orren is charged with setting fire to a
home on 813 Patterson Avenue Tuesday night.
The fire caused heavy damage to the home.
Police are currently investigating a rash of fires in the southwest part of
Roanoke.
Eight empty buildings including two vacant homes and four garages have
burned in recent days.
Orren has not been charged in any of those fires.
