She says shopping malls played a major role in the demise of the downtown
store.

No jobs will be lost because of the closing.
Employees of the downtown store are either being transferred or will retire.
Heironimus leased this building and now that Deidre Day has tallied the last
receipt, auctioneers will take the keys.
The building goes on the block Wednesday.

Virginia Tech administrators won a lawsuit filed by a student who was
strip-searched after being suspected of cheating on a make-up exam.
U-S District Judge James Turk ruled for the college before the case went to
trial.

justified.
School employees suspected Carboni of having notes in the restroom.

The lawsuit filed by militiaman Bill Stump has been dismissed.
He sued the judge, the prosecutor and the agent involved in his firearms
case.
Last fall Stump was convicted of possession of unregistered silencers as
part of the government's investigation of the Blue Ridge Hunt Club.
Stump is due to be sentenced next week.
THIS week Judge Turk threw out the case.
The Judge said that "neither an A-T-F agent, an Assistant U-S Attorney, nor
a federal judge may be held liable for faithfully performing his duties".

The new number was introduced last July.
The recording you just heard will be in place for at least 60 days.
The 5-4-0 area code stretches from Lee County, in the southwestern tip of
the state, to the northeast in Winchester.
This is one of the first area codes in the nation to have a second digit
other than zero or one.

A large pipe line in Roanoke County is still gushing water and may continue
for days to come.
A construction company putting in new guardrails ruptured a 36 inch water
pipe.

Construction workers struck it when they were putting in the guardrails near
the intersection of Florist and Williamson Road.
Roanoke City Water officials say the pipe has been sealed on both sides.
Now they need to wait for it to drain before the repairs can be made.
Officials say the construction company will pay for the repairs and lost
water.
Service to residents has not been interrupted.
