Authorities have identified the victim as 16- year old Tony Spraggins of
2-29 Shamlock Drive.
He was apparently shot twice with a nine-millimeter pistol.
Police say there were witnesses to the shooting.

A Lexington man died early this morning following a traffic accident in
Rockbridge County.
It happened around 2:30.
Police say 22-year-old David Thompson Junior was driving north on route 2-51
near Collierstown at a high rate of speed when his vehicle lost control and
struck a tree.
He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Last night, a man barricaded himself in his house, and fired shots as

Throughout the tense standoff, a total of four shots rang out from 111
Woodrum Avenue, the home of Marvin Donald Kirk, Junior and his wife Lisa Kirk.
Police say Don Kirk flew into a rage when officers arrived to serve him
with two misdemeanor warrants.
Lisa Kirk had secured a warrant against her husband for assault and battery.
Another woman had charged him with curse and abuse.
suThe standoff began around 7:40p.m. Police say two officers were escorting
Kirk's wife away from the house. They made it as far as the front porch when
Kirk allegedly fired one round from his rifle.

response team, the Giles County Sheriff's Department and Pearisburg police
waited, and negotiated with Kirk over the phone.
Police said he was extremely agitated, and fired his weapon three more
times.
Officers never returned his fire, and no one was hurt during the ordeal.

Randy Arno vacated the job late last year.

economically healthy.

With the Hotel Roanoke renovation complete, Roanoke has another big project
to consider.
On Tuesday community leaders unveiled an 18-million-dollar plan to renovate
the Henry Street area.
Norfolk Southern posted another strong set of financial results.
The railroad giant had a 713-million-dollar profit last year.
G-E Drive Systems in Salem says it may send close to 150 jobs to Mexico.
But the company emphasizes that even if the proposal is carried out, it will
NOT result in any layoffs in Salem.
The latest radio ratings in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market show a clear winner
for the most listeners overall.
Country station WYYD-FM is on top, nearly doubling the numbers of its
closest competitor.
WalMart opened its first SuperCenter in the Roanoke Valley Wednesday.
It employs 420 people.
The Valley View Mall next door says this should increase its customer
traffic...though in the next 18 months nearly a quarter of its storefronts will
change over due to a number of expired leases, and lackluster holiday sales.
The flood that battered Bath County last week took a toll on its largest
employer.
The Homestead Resort says it suffered two-and-a-half-million-dollars of
damages.
Litton-Fibercom of Roanoke has permanently reduced 51 jobs due to a slowdown
in business.
The computer network company says most of the cutbacks will come from its
production ranks.
Checking the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the week, it rose 87-points,
closing at 5271-point-7-5.
