But when he described his ideal candidate yesterday at a meeting of
Republican leaders in Richmond, it sounded a lot like challenger Jim Miller.

Warner broke rank with the G-O-P in 19-94 to support an independent

North says Republicans need a candidate who would support conservative U-S

Government officials who regulate building safety are concerned about a bill
that would alter the duties of the state fire marshal's office.
The office is part of the Department of Housing's division of building
regulations.
The legislation would make it part of the Department of Public Safety's fire
services board.
Building officials say it would no longer have the authority to
help enforce the Uniform Statewide Building Code.
