Lee Junior at the Patrick Henry Apartments on Booker Road.

A Bedford County jury is recommending thirty years for a man convicted of
murdering his girlfriend.

(( Just seconds after he shot 27- year- old Torina Lynn Wright last June, Joe
Bolling already was telling everyone he spoke to the shooting had been an
Bolling's three day trial centered on how his .44 Magnum revolver could have
fired without his having cocked the hammer or pulled the trigger.
Prosecutor Randy Krantz said the shooting was no accident... that the two
had been arguing when Bolling pulled out his gun to make one final point.

degree murder, and recommending a total of thirty years in prison and a 30-
thousand dollar fine.

Investigators are slowly piecing together the events surrounding a shooting
last night in Pittsylvania County.

The incident happened on state road 969 in Callands shortly after ten
Authorities say Keith Harris was shot once in the lower abdomen.
He's hospitalized, in stable condition.
Investigators believe Harris was involved in a fight when he was shot.
Carl McKinley was beaten in the head during the incident.
He was released from a Danville hospital.
Investigators do not have a motive, and they say neither man is talking.
Two members of a Bedford County family were sent to the hospital this
morning after narrowly escaping their burning home.
At about three o'clock firefighters were called to this house off Route 8-11
The glow of the flames could be seen more than a mile away, but crews had a
difficult time finding the home.

Authorities don't know what caused the fire.
This was the second fire in Bedford County in less than 24 hours.

Fire burned a house on Route 750 near Smith Mountain Lake to the ground
Authorities say the blaze MAY have started around a flue.
The house was occupied, but the family was not home at the time.
No one was hurt.
In the wake of numerous fires in the Roanoke Valley--local Rotary Clubs are
doing their share in the fight against fire.
The clubs are donating four-thousand dollars worth of smoke detectors to
fire departments in Roanoke County, Roanoke City, Salem, Vinton.
The Rotarians were motivated by January twentieth's Stewart Avenue fatal
Distribution will be based on demographics in the Roanoke Valley--and fire
department officials say this donation couldn't have come at a better time.

The Navy is reporting that the pilot killed in yesterday's crash of an F-14
in Nashville was involved in another mishap last April.
His squadron has been grounded while the Navy continues to investigate.
Yesterday's fiery crash killed the pilot, co-pilot and three people on the

The explosion shook the foundations of this neat subdivision just two
and a half miles from Nashville international airport.
The impact of the F-14 left little but the foundations of two homes... two
others were destroyed by the subsequent fire.
Pieces of the fighter jet littered the area...scott sulfridge found

An elderly couple and another person at the house hit directly by the
jet are among the dead. the pilot and co-pilot of the f-14 tomcat were killed

The pilot was attached to the vf-213...a squadron based at miramar
naval air station near san diego. that squadron has been involved in four
mishaps in the last two years.
CERTAINLY THAT'S AN UNUSUAL NUMBER OF MISHAPS...GIVES US CONCERN...WE'RE
ANXIOUS TO GET TO THE INVESTIGATION.
The crew was on a routine training mission...the pilot of the jet was
grounded last april after being involved in another incident. he was evaluated
and given the thumbs up to fly again.

A federal judge is hearing arguments today on whether to move the Oklahoma
City bombing trial out of state.

Last night bombing suspects Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were taken
from federal prison in El Reno to Oklahoma City in preparation for the hearing.
Their lawyers say a fair trial isn't possible in Oklahoma.
But prosecutors say going out of state would prevent some victim's
relatives form attending.
San Francisco and Charleston, West Virginia, have been mentioned as
possible trial sites.
The latest person to commit suicide in the presence of Dr. Jack Kevorkian
reportedly wasn't even close to death.
A Michigan medical examiner says while Linda Henslee did suffer from Muliple
Sclerosis she had none of the complications that usually kill M-S victims.
He's ruled her death yesterday a homicide caused by carbon monoxide
Henslee is the 27th person to die in the presence of Kevorkian.
A straw poll in Alaska and new surveys in New Hampshire indicate Magazine
publisher Steve Forbes is solidifying his challenge to Bob Dole for the G-O-P
In Alaska, Forbes' 31 percent of the votes was slightly behind Pat
Buchanan's 33 percent, but Dole was a distant third with 17 percent.
And a poll in New Hampshire gives Forbes 29 percent of the votes to Dole's

Forbes was considered a long shot months ago, but his flat tax plan and a
massive advertising campaign has bolstered his recognition factor.
Former Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources, Elizabeth Haskell, says she
is running for city council in Martinsville.
Haskell made her announcement early this morning at a press conference.
She is currently on the Board of Directors at the Martinsville Bulletin
City officials say Haskell is running for an open seat and no one has
challenged her yet.
Haskell served on Governor Doug Wilder's cabinet from 19-91 to '95.
Elections take place this May.

Punitive damages are not in the cards for a Franklin County man who paid
fortune teller Lola Miller 65-thousand dollars to help him pick lottery
Better known as "Miss Stella," the palm reader is now long gone.
She packed up her crystal ball and spent the last year in a federal prison.

testified that Miller assured him money would not be a problem, predicting that
he would win three million dollars.

It's likely though to be a hollow victory since the decision is virtually
Pan Am is taking to the skies again.
The backers of the new Pan Am airline have announced the carrier
will start flying within six months.
Pan Am stopped flying in 19-91.
Initial routes will connect New York to Miami, San Francisco and Los
Angeles, and the airline will use a strategy of low costs and alliances with
small, foreign airlines.
What's good for G-M is good for its workers today.
The company posted record profits in the fourth quarter of 19-95 --
