A fatal house fire in Craig County last night killed TWO children.

This house, just off state route 6-38 caught fire around 5-30 P-M.
Authorities say Mike Howard and his wife were home at the time with their two children when the blaze started.
Officials believe the fire spread quickly from the living room area down the hallway to the bedrooms.
The parents tried to save their children but the fire was too hot and spread too quickly.

A Roanoke man convicted of a FATAL arson has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Thirty-year-old Raymond Mahoney set fire to a house on May 13th.
The fire killed 40-year-old Brenda Davis.
Mahoney had argued earlier that night with Davis and got into a fight with her brother.

Paul David Thompson was sentenced yesterday to two life terms plus 25 years in prison for the first degree murder of Virgie Green.

Her beaten body was found stuffed in the trunk of her car in November 19-94 at her home.
Thompson also was sentenced to life with no parole in West Virginia after he admitted to killing a man there -- and he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the attempted murder and carjacking of a Florida man.

Sheriff's investigators were called to State Road 969 in Callands (CAL-unds) at around 10-30.
They say Keith Harris was shot once in the lower abdomen.
He's hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities believe Harris was fighting with another man when he was shot.
Carl McKinley was treated and released for wounds to his upper body.

Pittsylvania County authorities are also investigating an apparent stabbing yesterday at a home in the Ringgold community.
One person was taken into custody for questioning.
A woman and small child were taken to the hospital, authorities say they were both cut.
Investigators don't have a motive.
