Governor Allen has declared a state of emergency in Virginia and put 150 National Guard troops on alert for weekend service in areas hit hardest by the storm.

The Red Cross has opened a shelter for city residents at the West Wood Middle School.

One thing that is still on schedule this weekend is the fifth annual Roanoke-Salem baseball hall of fame Hot Stove banquet.
The event is still set for Sunday night at seven at the Salem Civic Center.

Despite rotten weather in Richmond as well, the Express was on the ice tonight in the Richmond Coliseum battling the Renegades and looking for their fourth straight win.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, who is skipping this weekend's Pro Bowl in Hawaii, is scheduled to have some more surgery on his throwing arm.
