With snow on the ground and more headed our way, the roads of western Virginia will be paved with problems today.

That's certainly the case in the New River Valley this morning, where several inches of snow have accumulated in some locations.
Overnight, state Police had their hands full with minor accidents, but there are no reports this morning of any serious injuries or major bottlenecks.
Meanwhile, the department of transportation and state police are urging everyone to stay off the road, but they're recommending snow tires or chains for those folks who have to hit the highway this morning.

A Danville judge has convicted the first of two men charged with the strangling death of man last summer.

Phil Dennis Clayborne was found guilty yesterday of robbing and killing 32 year old Angel Lewis Dejesus (De-Hey-Sues) of New Jersey.
The victim's body was found outside a home in Danville last July.

He was the father of five children.

A Lynchburg jury last night rejected Terry Hunter McCoy's claim of self- defense in the shooting death of Darryl Rosser in May.
Prosecutors had sought a second degree murder conviction, but were happy with the verdict- guilty of voluntary manslaughter.

In Pennsylvania this morning, the Ground hog HAS seen his shadow and it's easy to believe he's right-- predicting several more weeks of winter.
Overnight another winter storm hit the state dumping several inches of snow and in same places freezing rain, ice and sleet.

State police are reporting a number of accidents during the morning rush hour across the state.
Icy roads are causing many fender-benders along the interstates and many secondary roads.
Drivers are urged to stay at home if they can.
Here in western Virginia, some areas are already reporting several inches on the ground.

Though it promises to be a difficult day of driving, Joe Dashiell reports the morning has not brought any major accidents or traffic tie-ups.

Valley Metro and Danville Transit are running their snow routes this morning... and air travellers can expect flight cancellations and delays as the storm affects airports up and down the east coast.
Melanie, reports from American Electric Power this morning are good... with no widespread outtages overnight.

Melanie... it appears that the New River Valley is among those areas receiving the heaviest snow...
Two hours ago, the weather service was already reporting 8 1/2 inches of snow on the ground in Dublin.

The winter storm warning will remain in effect for the rest of today, through tomorrow.
Snow accumulations could reach a foot or more.
Highs today will be in the low 20s.
Tonight, the snow will continue, accumlations could total up to 16 inches.
Temperatures wil remain in the low 20s.
Looking ahead expect more snow over the weekend and cold temperatures.
Night time lows are expected to drop down to the low to mid teens.
