With a couple of inches of snow and ice on the ground already here in the Roanoke Valley, and more headed our way, the roads of western Virginia will be paved with problems today.

Melanie, few folks are on the road so far this morning, so we haven't heard of any serious problems... but the potential is there.
State Police have had their hands full with minor accidents, especially in areas where freezing rain is falling, but we've had no reports of serious injuries or major bottlenecks.

This morning, the Virginia Department of Transportation is recommending snow tires and chains for anyone who has to drive this morning.
and officials are asking residents to park vehicles in driveways and off the street where possible, to making plowing easier.

A Danville judge took just minutes to convict the first of two men charged with strangling a man to death in Danville last summer.

Phil Dennis Clayborne was found guilty yesterday of robbing and killing 32 year old Angel Lewis Dejesus (De-Hey-Sues) of New Jersey.
The victim's body was found outside a home in Danville last July.

Especially where freezing rain has left a slippery coating on the pavement.

A former Danville police officer is seeking five- million dollars in damages from the city and two high ranking police officers.
Jeffrey Williams filed the federal suit yesterday which names Danville Police Chief Neil Morris and assistant B-C Elliott.
Williams says he was wrongfully fired for raising questions about the department's treatment of people.
He alleges Morris and Elliot created a racially hostile work environment.
