new jobs in the Roanoke area.
Now the bank will overhaul a much larger division.
Workers learned a department that processes checks and deposits is part of a
"re-engineering" program.
Some functions will transfer out of the area.
First Union says this won't negatively impact its workforce here.
The bank will transfer people or put them in other jobs if they're
qualified.
200 people work in the affected division.
Altogether, First Union has 22-hundred employees here.

and honor this year four inductees.
Heading the class of 96' is former Salem Rebel and Pittsburgh Pirates relief
ace Kent Tekulve, who was a big part of the Bucs 1979 World series title.
