Rockbridge County authorities nab 17-people in a drug trafficking
operation-- including two employees of Washington and Lee University.

A Washington and Lee University Archeological Researcher has been indicted
on on charges conspiring to distribute cocaine.
The Rockbridge County Regional Drug Task Force confirmed researcher Kurt C.
Russ was in a ring that stretched form Miami to Lexington.

Ron Jones is in our newsroom with the latest.
Jean, according to police this drug ring also involved the W&L maintenance
man, and a former student.
Police indicted 17 people who had their hands in distributing more than one
million dollars of powder cocaine.

Kurt Russ has been an Archeological Researcher at Washington and Lee since

Davis and an Alumni in North Carolina in distributing cocaine throughout

Eleven of the 17- have been arrested the other six are at large.

Today, the democrat from Rocky Mount said he will run for the 5th District
seat in Congress that L.F. Payne is leaving behind.

Goode angered many democrats earlier this year by forcing a power- sharing
agreement with republicans in the state senate, but he now has support from
many of the democratic lawmakers in the 5th district.
Who Goode's Republican opponent will be is anyone's guess.
Former GOP candidate George Landrith has been quoted as saying the
nomination is his for the asking.
But some of his Republican colleagues disagree.
Bedford County resident Eric Thompson says he'll challenge Landrith for the

Fire kills a family of seven in California this morning.
This afternoon the father surrendered to authorities.
Police say 40 year old George (Avan-A-see-an) called officers from a
Persian Newspaper in the San Fernando Valley- and has been taken into custody.
The victims are four children and three adults.
The family had just moved here from Iran a few months ago.
Police say the father had fled the fire with burned hands and forehead.
He'd been arrested several months ago and booked for investigation of child

The parents are locked up tonight- The father is charged with more than one
thousand counts of abuse.
An Evington teenager is charged in connection with a fatal car accident in
Lynchburg last month.
67 year old Betty Blackburn Campbell died in this three car crash on Wards
Road January 4th.
Authorities say 19 year old Andrew Lewis Viar ran a red light and plowed
into Campbell's vehicle, pushing it into a tractor trailer.
Viar was arrested yesterday and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
He was released on his own recognizance.
No court date has been set.

images of women in print ads, television and film, it's not surprising women
are starving themselves to death.

And the problem is also increasing among men-- as Wyche points out
advertising is increasingly geared toward the male self-image.

YOU WILL, WHERE EVERYONE IS HAPPY. IF YOU'RE OVERWEIGHT YOU CAN'T BE HAPPY, YOU
CAN'T BE POPULAR. YOU CAN'T BE SUCCESSFUL. ))

In "Eaten Alive," Wyche also tries to stress that the person with an eating
disorder doesn't have to be extremely under- or over-weight.
Rather, it's how consumed they are with food and their bodies.

A judge in Brazil says Michael Jackson's planned video could jeopardize
The judge issued a restraining order barring Jackson from filming in one
of the slums of Rio de Janeiro for 20 days.
He says suspending the filming is neccessary so the King of Pop can better
explain why he wants to shoot the video in an area controlled by cocaine
The state governor opposes the video, while the city's mayor and

A Danville businessman has filed a federal lawsuit against three local

Sam Sakellaris, Junior alleges he was cursed and beaten by two Danville
Police officers, while the third encouraged what was going on.
Officer L-M Adkins arrested Sakellaris during a routine traffic stop two
All charges against Sakellaris were later dropped.
But Sakellaris maintains certain officers have continued to harass him.
Jean, the suit was filed last week- - the same day a former Danville police
officer filed his own suit against the department.
