Mainly because Virginia's population is too big-- possibly producing too many winners. end stand- up
The game can best be described as a multi- state lotto.
Less- populated states join forces, and produce major- league jackpots-- typically tens of millions of dollars.
The prizes in the Keno game are not as big.
But the top payoff isn't exactly small change.
Players can win up to 100- thousand dollars.
Maryland has profited well with Keno over the last three years, generating more than 500- million dollars in sales.
The game is played on video screens, usually in restaurants and bars.
But there are some who fear that it's too accessible... and might encourage gambling.
There are some lawmakers in Virginia who have already expressed disapproval of both games.
If neither makes it to the Commonwealth, no one is sure how the seventy million dollar budget gap will be filled.
