investigating an incident that landed a man in the hospital and later in jail.
The confrontation all started this weekend during a routine traffic stop.

30-year-old Steven Leftwich had to be assisted by his mom to judge's bench
this morning.
One eye closed shut, limping and with a swollen face... he alleges Roanoke
City Police Officers beat him without cause.
However, police contend Leftwich attacked two officers and a trooper during
a traffic stop.
The incident happened Sunday morning on Campbell Avenue around 3:30.
The driver, Leftwich's cousin William Hyden says the police pulled him over
for a broken taillight.
He says during the stop police ordered Leftwich out of the passenger seat to
question him.
Hyden says that's when the beating began.

Leftwich as being involved in the altercation.

Jeffrey Williams is referring to allegations of police conduct made by his
distant relative, Pam Carter.
Williams say Carter was upset about the night she and her husband were
brought in for questioning surrounding the murder of a Danville Winn Dixie
store manager.
He says Pam Carter complained she was in handcuffs and so scared she
urinated on herself, but wasn't allowed to change clothes.
No charges related to the case were ever filed against the couple-- but
Williams say the fact he looked into the matter cost him his job.

He also declined comment on another lawsuit, which was filed February first,
the same day as Williams.
Sam Sakellaris, Junior claims he was beaten by two police officers during a
routine traffic stop.
In his lawsuit, he alleges the practice was tolerated and encouraged by
upper brass.

When a five- month old baby died last night at Community Hospital in
Roanoke, hospital security officers immediately arrested the FATHER of the
child.
Before the baby died... hospital officials so strongly suspected it was a
case of deliberate child ABUSE... they called police and a social worker.
It turned out the father, 26-year old Gerry Griffis, was wanted in Florida.
Franklin County Sheriff Quint Overton says Griffis has lived in the Henry
area for at least the past year.
Warrants will not be sought in the child's death until an autopsy is
completed.
Griffis is being held in the Roanoke City jail on a fugitive warrant.
