That after girl's friend told authorities the teen jumped from Commissary
Hill bridge in Giles County Sunday afternoon.
But this morning, authorities learned the girl was alive and well.
They aren't releasing her name or any details pending further investigation.

A man and woman were found dead this morning outside an abandoned store in
The bodies were discovered around 4-o'clock on State Route 841 after a
passerby noticed a third victim lying in the road.
Investigators believe 19- year old Sydney Hairston of Martinsville and 25-
year old Darrell Womack of Axton were shot to death- but they are awaiting
The victim found lying in the road was 27- year old Knova Day of Axton.
He's in serious condition at a Danville hospital.
Sheriff Harold Plaster says this morning's wet weather did not cause problems

Authorities aren't commenting on a motive, but they do have a suspect.
An Albemarle County man faces murder and firearms charges for a fatal
shooting in Amherst last night.
Police say 27- year- old Juan Jose Ochoa (OCHO-A) shot and killed a 22 year
old Hispanic male during an argument in the Town Court Mobile Home Park.
The victim's name has not been released. He was pronounced dead at the scene
with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.
After briefly fleeing the area, Ochoa returned a half an hour after the
shooting and was arrested without incident.

Roanoke City students will have their spring break cut short this year--
thanks to the 12 days they missed due to inclimate weather.
Tonight, the school board decided to use three days of spring break to help
make up snow days.

But board members ended up biting the bullet and approved April 10, 11, and
12th as make- up days.
At its last meeting, the board also authorized the inservice day on January
26th-- as well as March 15th and Memorial Day as make up time.
That accounts for six of the 12 days missed--
Three days are padded into the school calendar-- and the remaining three
days will be pulled from excess banked time the school system had acquired.

The board also approved a contingency plan in the event of more inclimate
If additional days are missed, the school day would be extended by up to
30- minutes, starting April first.

several hundred new jobs.

Sources in the business community say Roanoke County is trying to complete a
deal which would bring a high-tech printing company to Valley TechPark.
The industrial park opened a year and a half ago in the western part of the
SUPER=03-Roanoke Co./August 29, 1995;
Rusco Windows of Roanoke announced plans to move there last summer.
Sources say this new tenant could take up the rest of the space.
No one with Roanoke County could be reached for comment.
State officials confirmed tonight Governor Allen will attend an economic
development announcement in the county tomorrow afternoon.
Meanwhile a major fireworks company from Long Island, New York may expand
its operations to Southwest Virginia.

Vice President of Operations Phil Grucci (GREW-chee) confirms Grucci
Fireworks is negotiating with Alliant Techsystems, the company which operates
the Radford Arsenal.
He says federal ARMS incentives help make the arsenal especially attractive.
The ARMS initiative was enacted to encourage commercial industries to create
jobs at arsenals hurt by defense downsizing.
Grucci has handled the fireworks displays for the last four U.S.

If convicted, the defendants face the death penalty.
A Los Angeles jury has cleared rap star Snoop Doggy Dogg and his bodyguard
of murder, but it still must decide if the pair are guilty of voluntary
Bodyguard McKinley Lee and the rapper whose real name is Calvin Broadus were
both acquitted of the 1993 murder of a L-A gang member.
The panel will have to return tomorrow to decide on the lesser charge.
Prosecutors say Broadus and Lee tracked down the victim after an earlier
The defense contends the killing was self defense.
The Botetourt County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the murder
of a Roanoke woman... Now authorities have learned the woman's ex-husband was
found dead this morning.
Last Thursday, two men found the remains of 31- year- old Rebecca Jean
Wright near the James River in Botetourt County.
This morning her ex-husband, 37-year-old James Short, was found dead by
their 14-year-old daughter in his home in Roanoke.
The medical examiner has NOT determined the cause of death.
Wright and Short had two young daughters.

A former bank manager gets four months in jail for FAKING a robbery last

Robin Rickett pled guilty last December to embezzling nearly
thirty-thousand dollars from the State Bank of the Alleghanies.
She was indicted on 17 counts of fraud and forgery.

In addition to the four-month sentence, Rickett will be on probation for
five years and will have to pay the money back.
They wanted a half- million state dollars for the Bedford D-Day memorial --

News 7 Sports has learned that Radford University athletic director Chuck
Taylor os stepping down from the post he has held for the past 22 years.
Taylor wants to return to teaching at the University, and later today he
will ask the school's board of visitors for a reassignment.
Taylor came to RU as the school's first AD and basketball coach in 1974.
Over that time he has taken the school into the Division one ranks and
overseen an athletic department that fields 17 varsity sports.
He will not be easy to replace, although a number of Radford alumni
including John Montgomery and Charlene Curtis will no doubt be candidates for
The Roanoke Express won its 7th straight home game, and stayed a perfect
24-and-0 in games in which it scores 4 or more goals.
Last night the Columbus Chill would go down but not without a fight.
With Roanoke on top 3-to-2 late in the game the Chill pulls its goalie and
