after Cuban fighter jets shot down two American civilian planes today.
President Clinton says he condemns
Cuba's attack on U-S civilian planes ``in the strongest possible terms.''
The president says the military also will make sure that the
search-and-rescue operation is ``fully protected.''
The president is demanding an explanation from Havana.

A Radford University student has died in a fire at a fraternity house.
Officials believe Christopher T. Mirch of Herndon died of smoke inhalation.
The fire started around two this morning on the back porch of the Delta Tau
Chi fraternity house on Grove Avenue.

Firefighters found Mirch on the floor of the bathroom.
Witnesses say rescue workers tried to revive him with C-P-R.
He was transported to Radford Community Hospital where he died.

The fraternity is NOT recognized by the university.
Investigators sent evidence from the fire to the crime lab in Roanoke to
help determine the cause of the blaze.
They are also waiting on the autopsy report.
A neighbor's phone call yesterday alerted Blacksburg police to three bodies
in a Fairfax Point townhouse.
Police are awaiting autopsy reports on 44-year-old Susan M. Asbury of
Blacksburg and 60-year-old Robert L. Asbury of Christiansburg.
Their bodies were found in a bedroom.
The third victim, 44-year-old Donald G. Anderson of Radford, was found in
The shooting happened around four in the afternoon.
Police say at least 10 gun shots were fired.
They say Robert and Susan Asbury were separated, and Anderson was an

This morning's Thousand Man March on Roanoke was organized to give hope for
a better tomorrow.
At least 300 people showed up to make the journey from the Washington Park
Pool to Lucy Addison Middle School.
Harold Cannaday chose the middle school because Lucy Addison was such a
positive force in the black community.
Cannaday hopes this march will help raise the self esteem of the black
community AND create good role models for young people to follow.

Steve Forbes has surprised everyone tonight by winning in Delaware.
Forbes placed fourth in Iowa's caucuses and New Hampshire's primary.

Pat Buchanan is a solid third, with

Two assailants who allegedly murdered Saddam Huessein's son-in-law were
buried as "martyrs" in a state funeral today.
Lt. Gen. Hussein Kamel Hassan, two brothers, and his father were all gunned
down yesterday, just days after Hussein Hassan returned from exile in Jordan.
Iraqi's government- ran- media blamed the killings on relatives of Hussein
Kamel Hassan... saying the family was outraged that he was disloyal to Iraqi
president Saddam Hussein.
The son-in-law defected to Jordan last August and wanted Hussein overthrown.

offer its own Internet access service.

plants at the Mill Mountain zoo.
The trees, shrubs and perennials were used to create an Asian Theme.
Workers say it will take about a year for the plants to take root.
