A string of events kept Bedford County authorities very busy last night.
It started with a double shooting at about nine o'clock near

At the SAME TIME more than a half dozen deputies rushed to Bedford Memorial Hospital.

American Electric Power is helping in the recovery efforts of the Pioneer Maid.
The popular dining and sightseeing cruise ship in Pulaski County is sitting on the bottom of Claytor Lake.
It's been there since Thursday.

A-E-P began lowering the lake early yesterday morning to help with the recovery of the dinner boat.
Right now only the upper deck of the Pioneer Maid is above water.

The New River Cruise Company operates the vessel.
Owner Howard Barrett says a salvage crew will arrive Wednesday to get the boat out of the water so it can be repaired.
And as long as the damage isn't extensive, Barrett says he hopes to have the Maid cleaned up and ready for passengers when the season opens in May.

He was a student at Virginia Military Institute.
