Mark Anthony Carter was in court this morning for his arraignment.
He was arrested Friday in the Henry County community of Axton-- a day after
capital murder warrants were issued.

He's charged with killing 19- year old Sydney Sherell (SHA-RELL) Hairston
and 25- year old Darrell Womack.
Both had been shot in the head.
Their bodies were discovered last Tuesday outside an abandoned store in the

near Moneta.
David Foxx was shot in the face and under his arm,-- Reva Price was shot in
the leg.

A search for the alleged gunman ended an hour later in Franklin County,
where deputies picked up 31-year-old George Arthur English.
All three were from Moneta.
At the SAME TIME more than a half dozen deputies rushed to Bedford Memorial
Hospital.

A scuffle broke out between some acquaintances of the victims.

Police say a Palestinian driver apparently lost control of his car
and plowed into a crowd of Israelis waiting at a bus stop on the
main road leading north from Jerusalem to the West Bank... .
Ambulances have been rushing the injured to hospital, some in
critical condition... The driver, of Arab-American was shot dead
by armed Israelis at the scene.

The incident comes as nerves are frayed, while Israel is still
burying the dead from yesterdays suicide bomb attacks that killed
over two dozen people - in one of the worst single-day terror tolls
Israel has ever suffered...
Most of those killed died in the bombing of a packed Jerusalem
bus... a blast that scattered debris and bodies across one of the
city's busiest streets... Leaving grief and mourning in its wake,
and leaving Israelis a bit less ready to give peace a chance.
The assassination of Yitzhak Rabin in November created a solid majorityin
favor of the peace process...
Today's incident shows how fragile it all is Yesterday's attacks have cut into
that majority for peace... a few more attacks and there may be no majority for
peace left.

language.
A viewer from Vinton thinks that idea is less than "wunderbar".
"I feel like that there are many other issues occurring in Virginia that
require the attention of the House of Delegates more than the issue of whether
or not English will be our official language. As a college student and a
student of foreign languages, I think it is wonderful for people to learn
another language, maybe even three or four languages, but I do not think that
the issue requires the heated debate it seemed to be getting from the delegates
shown on the newcast.
In short, I think that the delegates need to start making decisions on the
issues that they campaigned so fervently for and what we elected them for, not
whether or not the state's native language will become Spanish, French, German
or Italian."

It was Dale Earnhardt who held off Dale Jarrett to win the Goodwrench 400
at Rockingham.

spot 60 laps into the race.
But no one could catch pole-sitter Terry Labonte.

South Boston's Ward Burton gets tapped in the rear and hits the wall
bringing out the caution on lap 97.
Then Jimmy Spencer passes Labonte showing his power to take the lead on
lap 137.
On lap 172 a couple of cars collide.
Loy Allen hits the wall hard after losing his brakes.
Allen was transferred to a local hospital.
For the second week in a row Labonte picks up some trash off the track and
it costs him an engine and the race.
Earnhardt picks up points for leading the race but he bumps Bobby
Hamilton in the rear.
Hamilton hits the wall and Earnhardt moves back to the lead.
Earnhardt is strong at the end and after a crash on lap 390 Earnhardt
wins the Goodwrench 400 under caution.

The female sea cow, known as "Sweet Pea", has been staying at Sea
World in San Antonio since she was rescued from a Houston bayou.
Officials say she's in good health, and eats up to 150 pounds of romaine
lettuce every day.
She's flying home to Florida today aboard a U-S Coast Guard plane at Kelly
Air Force Base.
In early spring officials plan to release her into the wild with another
female sea cow.
