A Henry county woman is in jail tonight-- charged with abusing and
neglecting her children.
31 year old Vivian Thomas was arrested this morning.
The felony charges stem from a fatal house fire

Thomas' other children are in the custody of social services-- and are
staying with their grandmother.
Meanwhile, Thomas is being held on 25- hundred dollars bond in the Henry
Radford Commonwealth's Attorney Randal Duncan does NOT expect charges from
Saturday's fatal fire at the Delta (Tau-CIE) Tau Chi fraternity house.
21 year old Christopher Thomas Mirch died in the blaze.
Duncan says lab analysis found NO evidence that accelerants were used to
start the fire.
According to Duncan, authorities speculate it started from cigarette butts
tossed into a trash can that had contained polyurethane.
The children of a tow truck driver killed in a fiery crash at the Ironto
rest area will receive more than two million dollars each under the settlement
of a lawsuit.

Minnie Katherine Williams was killed when her flatbed tow truck was crushed
between two tractor trailers at the rest area on I-81.
Today lawyers for her estate settled a 15 million dollar lawsuit against the
trucking company, Dynamic Express, and the two truck drivers.
Williams' children, ages seven and nine will benefit from monthly payments
for life and a college fund.
Lesbian mother Sharon Bottoms has lost again, and her partner now says
Bottoms may drop her custody battle.
Bottoms had hoped to convince the same Henrico County judge who originally
took her son away that her life was stable.
But the judge ruled in favor of grandmother Kay Bottoms.
He ignored warnings from his own court-appointed attorney that four year old
Tyler was suffering under Kay's care.
Kay Bottoms' attorney discredited the legal guardians research.

The use of Ritalin among children in the United States is causing new
concern. The drug is used to treat hyperactive children.
Now the The International Narcotics Control Board says the drug is being
A report calls for all governments to watch for over use of the Ritalin
family of drugs.
It also wants the World Health Organization to investigate.
The agency warns there's also a black market where teens buy or steal the
stimulant from younger kids and then abuse it.
The United Nations agency says up to five percent of all U-S school children
take the drug daily.
Ninety percent of the sales are in the U-S.
One in ten people have the condition scoliosis, a curvature of the

husband and skating partner Sergie Grinkov died in November.
He died of heart failure in Lake Placid, New York during practice.
