Henry County authorities broke into a motel room overnight after hours of
negotiations with a suspect barricaded inside.
The suspect had a female hostage in the room.
Around midnight-- a Henry County investigator spotted a car sought by North
Carolina authorities parked outside the King's Court Motel on Route 2-20.
North Carolina police suspected that the driver, 30- year old Lawson Orpha
McCollum, may have abducted a 22- year old Eden woman from her home.
Investigators found out their suspicions were true.

Union workers at a North Carolina distribution center say they're fighting
Employees at the Greensboro center say they make less than other K-Mart
workers, because most of their employees are black.
About two dozen workers made the trip up 2-20 to protest outside the K-Mart
store on Hershberger Road, this afternoon.
They say this is just the beginning and that their journey will end at
K-Mart's international headquarters in Troy, Michigan.

A reorganization at DuPont's Nylon plant in Martinsville will cost several
managers their jobs.
The positions eliminated include people who do NOT supervise hourly

Astronauts aboard the space shuttle Columbia are doing several science
experiments today as they test the nature of fires set in near-zero gravity.
They are setting different materials on fire to see how air motion affects
