It's been a vital downtown anchor.
But Grand is closing its Blacksburg and Radford stores, consolidating its
New River Valley business into the Heironimus building in Christiansburg.
In Radford, Grand's lease is up.
But in Blacksburg, the company says a difficult building layout and an even
tougher parking problem led to the decision to close there.
Blacksburg merchants fear until the town has a parking garage, that's a
problem that won't go away.

GOOD ATTEMPTS TO PURCHASE PROPERTY AND MAKE LOTS SPREAD AROUND, BUT THAT'S ALL

Saari says the parking situation will make it hard to attract another large
retailer to fill the 25 thousand- square foot space Grand currently leases.
He'd like to see the building divided to accommodate a number of merchants.

((WELL IT WOULD GIVE VARIETY AND IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR A BUSINESS PERSON TO

IT, WOULD BE BENEFICIAL. ))

was available to comment on that store's closing. Tracy Altizer, News 7.))
