Tultex officials confirmed the company will eliminate up to 140 jobs by the end of this month.

Rogers says the company is hoping it will be able to place at least 20 employees in open positions at the plant.

Melvin Whittaker, the University of Virginia's top basketball prospect for next season, has been charged with malicious wounding.

The 6'10" Whittaker spent today in a Charlottesville court in a bond hearing where a bail of 10 thousand dollars was set.
According a UVA source, Whittaker was playing basketball at Slaughter Recreation Center, on the Virginia campus. Whittaker quit playing and left after he exchanged words with UVA football player Maurice Anderson. Outside of the recreation center, Whittaker, who played at Hargrave Military, and Anderson again reportedly had words and, Whittaker allegedly slashed Anderson across the face with a sharp object.
Whittaker was released under his own recognizance today. He is facing up 5 to 20 years in prison and up to a 100 thousand dollar fine.

The Roanoke men's lacrosse team proved why it is deserving of the nations number 5 preseason ranking today as the Maroons beat 11th ranked Alfred in salem.
