High speed drama in Roanoke as police get their man.
And a high profile rape case involving Virginia Tech football players is in
Roanoke Federal Court today.

News 7 captures a dramatic ending to a high speed car chase involving an
attempted murder suspect.
It started last night in Bedford County, and ended with a car crash in
Kimberly McBroom and photograher Greg Moore were the only news crew on the
scene--here's their report.

The finale of the chase played out like an action adventure movie-- with
dozens of police cars surrounding the suspect and his armed female passenger.
Authorities say 22- year- old Sean Michael Love was wanted for attempted
murder in Prince George County.
Then he apparently headed west for an extended crime spree.

Love led Bedford, Roanoke, and state authorities on a high speed chase
until its dramatic finish at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Hollins
Love struck another vehicle-- but the driver escaped with minor injuries.

When the ordeal was over, police took Love into custody, as well as the
unidentified woman riding along with him.
In addition to the attempted murder charge in Prince George County-- Love
also faces charges in Roanoke and surrounding counties.

Meanwhile Shawn Love was arraigned in Roanoke this morning and is being held

Melanie, the arraignment took less than five minutes... but if he's
convicted on all the charges against him... he could be looking at decades
The 22- year- old was brought into court in a wheelchair and you could
clearly see cuts on his face.
All of those injuries were sustained during the wreck.
Here in Roanoke, Love faces a total of three charges-- two misdemeanors and
The felony is ATTEMPTED malicious wounding.
The lesser charges are reckless driving and failure to stop for a police
Love will be tried on those misdemeanors May thirteenth.
That same day he'll also have a preliminary hearing on the attempted
malicious wounding charge.
Melanie, as you said, he's being held without bond.
That's because of the charges against him in other areas.
He's accused of attempted murder in Prince George County.

And he's accused of robbing a total of three motels in Lynchburg and Amherst
All of these charges of course stem from the alleged crime spree yesterday.

It's really a strange story.
Apparently a Bedford County Deputy stopped to get a bite at McDonalds when
the A- P- B went out.
Just about a minute or two later, Love entered the drive- through of that
very same McDonalds.

Needless to say the chase began right there.

She is a juvenile and Roanoke Police are not releasing her name.
And at this time they're still not sure how she fits into the picture.
A few blocks away at the federal courthouse, a judge is holding a hearing at
this hour in the Christy Brzonkala case.
Among the motions being argued before Judge Jackson Kiser, is one by
Virginia Tech to dismiss the sex discrimination lawsuit filed by Brzonkala.

The woman who locked an 84- year- old man in the trunk of his car for two
days pled guilty to the crime.
Circuit Court Judge Diane Strickland found 31- year- old Mitzi Horton guilty
of robbery and abduction.
83- year- old Vernon Laughon (lawn) was fonud in the trunk of his Oldsmobile
He had been in the trunk for two days and two nights.

Blacksburg police believe they've nailed down the scenario of a double
murder- suicide last month.
Donald Anderson showed up at his friend Susan Asbury's apartment at 233
Fairfax Pointe and encountered her estranged husband, Robert L. Asbury.
Police say Asbury shot Anderson four times.

Bradbery says when Susan got home, her husband beat her in the head, then

Robert Asbury then apparently sat down beside her and shot himself.
Bradbery says Asbury was upset over his and Susan's broken marriage.
He left a note apologizing to family members.

It took place in former chairman Mark Munsey's office, rather than the
regular board room. It was called a work session, but members admittedly
discussed the county administrator and agreed then to ask for his resignation.
Branson has asked Munsey for the minutes of that meeting.
Chairman Charles Dix says none were taken, but Munsey told Branson he would
raise the issue at this board meeting.
Munsey tried to convene an executive session for that purpose, to discuss
the matter behind closed doors.

But objections from the media raised concern over whether an executive

Branson then offered to meet with Dix and supervisor Bucky Sharitz to settle
the matter peacefully, but he says Munsey put his foot down.

The A-C-C Tourney gets underway tomorrow night.
Last night the conference passed out some post season honors to first year
players with the release of the ACC all-freshman team.
Only one player was a unanimous selection -- point guard Stephon Marbury
from Georgia Tech.
He was named on all 108 ballots cast by the A-C-C sports writers association.
Virginia's Courtney Alexander made the team along with
Carolina's Antwan Jamison, Clemson's Terrell McIntyre and Duke's Taymon
And while one U-V-A player is getting a pat on the back, a basketball
recruit is getting slapped in handcuffs.
Nineteen-year-old Melvin Whitaker Junior of North Carolina was arrested
yesterday and charged with malicious wounding.
Police charged him with assaulting a Cavalier football player during a
pickup basketball game at a university recreation center.
