The Virginia Employment Commission says in January the Commonwealth's jobless rate was five-percent- slightly lower than a year ago and well below the national jobless rate.
State economist Bill Mezger says harsh weather caused an increase in the unemployment rates around here.
Roanoke's was four-percent, up a bit from December.
Lynchburg came in at four-point nine percent, up more than one-percent from the month before.

Apparently this 20 year old girl, Colette McCune was driving Flair's car while she was legally drunk.

Flair says he, his wife, McCune and some other friends were at Southend Brewery last night when he asked McCune to drive his luxury car because he had too much to drink.
Flair says McCune was sober and had not been drinking since she is underage.

About 112 people evacuated from the town of Weyauwega (wy-uh-WEE'-guh), Wisconsin were allowed back into their homes briefly today.
They were on a rescue mission to save their pets.

Residents have been kept away since the Monday morning derailment of a freight train carrying liquid propane.
Though the fire is burning, armored cars carried residents to their homes to save the freezing and hungry pets they had to leave behind.
Authorities planned the rescue after the railroad said the fire could continue to burn for another three weeks.

Heinz ketchup lovers weren't anticipating this one.
The company that prides itself on selling thick heavy ketchup is in trouble for not putting enough of it in its bottles.
The government says the nation's leading ketchup maker isn't filling its oversized bottles.
Seventeens states including Virginia have returned bottles that were below their advertised weight.
Heinz is offering to replace any unopened underweight bottles with fresh ones.
