A massacre this morning at an elementary school in Scotland.
Earlier today a guman burst into a school gymnasium and opened fire on a kindergarten class.
When the shooting stopped 16 children and one teacher were dead and at least a dozen other children were wounded.
The gunman then took his own life. It all happened in Dunblane, a small town of nine-thousand on the edge of the Scottish Highlands.
Queen Elizabeth today sent a message of sympathy to the people of Dunblane, saying all of Britian feels a sense of grief and horror.

Half of all alcoholics have an underlying psychiatric illness such as depression, which women are six times more likely to experience. ALEXANDER VUCKOVIC M.D., MCCLEAN HOSPITAL: 112806 YOU CAN THINK OF ALCOHOL AS A MAGNIFYING GLASS WHICH DOUBLES OR TRIPLES SOMEBODY'S RISK OF HAVING ANOTHER PSYCHIATRIC PROBLEM.
For years, the standard treatment for alcoholism was abstinence.
But as many as forty percent of depressed patients fell off the wagon.
Now a study in JAMA shows that doctors who treat alcoholics with antidepressants have a high success rate: 81% of treated patients had significant relief of their depressive symptoms and only 8% suffered a relapse. DR. BARBARA MASON, UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI: OUR RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT FOR MANY PEOPLE, THE DEPRESSION WON'T GO AWAY WHEN THEY STOP DRINKING UNLESS IT IS TREATED WITH ANTI DEPRESSANT MEDICATION.
But according to treatment experts, a major obstacle to the use of antidepressants has been that Alcoholics Anonymous or AA--one of the world's most successful programs--discourages its members from using drugs to treat alcoholism, fearing they may trade one dependency for another. ALEXANDER VOCKOVIC M.D., MCCLEAN HOSPITAL: I THINK FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS STUDY DEMONSTRATES NOT JUST TO PATIENTS AND DOCTORS BUT TO THE TREATMENT SYSTEMS THEMSELVES, THAT IS THE AA GROUPS, THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTACKING THE MEDICAL SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION IN HELPING PEOPLE STAY SOBER.
Ironically, another emerging obstacle to abstinence is the steady barrage of scientific and media reports on the healthy benefits of alcohol, benefits that can only be enjoyed in moderation. Dr. Bob Arnot, CBS News, New York City.))

How many drinks mean abuse?

What are the warning signs of alcohol abuse, versus alcohol dependence?

What can be done to cut back, before it becomes dependence?

Very quickly, another study released yesterday finds a recovering alcoholic needs to be symptom-free for five years to be out of danger of a relapse. Do you agree?)
