Fire fighters say nothing could be done to save a Danville home that went up
in flames early this morning.

Crews believe the fire had been burning for about an hour when the call came
in.
No one lived in the house, but it was being remodeled.

ignited the blaze.

A fire that killed two elderly men in Lynchburg earlier this week has been
ruled an accident.
83- year- old Sam Williams died when his home on "F" Street caught fire
Monday morning.
His neighbor, 72- year- old Calvin Floyd, was also killed in the blaze.
Autopsies revealed both men died of smoke inhalation.
Fire marshals believe the fire started near a wood stove in Williams'
bedroom.
A neighbor told them he saw Williams use gasoline to start the stove last
week.
They don't know whether that's what fueled Monday's fire.

Less than a week after firing its county administrator, Carroll County has
hired the administrator HENRY County recently terminated.
Bob Lawler started to work today as a TEMPORARY full- time consultant.
He'll be assisting ACTING Carroll County administrator Jimmy Alderman with
ongoing projects.
Henry County's new board of supervisors fired Lawler over what they called
"philosophical differences."

This is not the first shovelful.
Five major river crossings were constructed between 1992 and '94.
But the gaps are being filled in -- and filled in fast.
Despite ongoing legal challenges, and a bill against it pending in Congress,
opponents of the Lake Gaston pipeline can no longer hide in their shells or
bury their heads in the sand.
