Fire fighters say nothing could be done to save a Danville home that went up
in flames early this morning.
The roof had already collapsed when fire fighters got to the 700- block of
Arnette Boulevard around 4- o'clock.
Crews believe the fire had been burning for about an hour when the call came
No one lived in the house, but it was being remodeled.
Officials believe a drop-cloth placed over a furnace grate in the floor
ignited the blaze.

It took fire fighters about 15- to 20 minutes to put the fire out.
The home was a total loss.
No one was injured. The house next door was also damaged.

A fire that killed two elderly men in Lynchburg earlier this week has been
ruled an accident.
83- year- old Sam Williams died when his home on "F" Street caught fire
His neighbor, 72- year- old Calvin Floyd, was also killed in the blaze.
Autopsies revealed both men died of smoke inhalation.
Fire marshals believe the fire started near a wood stove in Williams'
A neighbor told them he saw Williams use gasoline to start the stove last
They don't know whether that's what fueled Monday's fire.
Less than a week after firing its county administrator, Carroll County has
hired the administrator HENRY County recently terminated.
Bob Lawler started to work today as a TEMPORARY full- time consultant.

Five major river crossings were constructed between 1992 and '94.
But the gaps are being filled in -- and filled in fast.
Despite ongoing legal challenges, and a bill against it pending in Congress,
opponents of the Lake Gaston pipeline can no longer hide in their shells or
bury their heads in the sand.

Radford University has opened what it calls a "one- stop shopping center"
for business people in need of university resources.
Officials celebrated the opening of the Business Assistance Center, intended
to support small- to medium- size businesses.
It will also serve as an internship and job placement resource for students,
and match students with businesses for hands-on training. In the next
year, officials also hope to offer a center for international trade.

The stock market pushed higher today. The Dow gained 17 points to close at

Officials say they try to come up with impartial information about how
