For the second time in less than three months a pilot is forced to make an
emergency landing in our area.
Last night around seven, James Lee landed in the Valley View Mall parking
lot after his plane had engine problems.
In January, Lee also made an emergency landing in Rockbridge County.

federal firearms violations.

last night.

The blaze destroyed a condemned house. It also damaged a neighboring
trailer.

No one was seriously injured in the blaze.

Two years after the bridge linking Pulaski County and Radford was abruptly
shut down, work to continue strengthening it is about to begin.

The highway department closed Memorial Bridge without warning in April of
1994 when engineers found serious deterioration during an inspection.
Repairs were made, and now V-DOT has finished a study of short and long-
term solutions.
While officials stress the bridge is safe, the study shows it's weakest
beneath the median.
Next month contractors will begin a short- term fix of erecting concrete
barriers down the center, moving traffic to the outsides.
Costs of LONG-TERM solutions- rehabilitating or replacing the bridge- range
from seven and a half million to more than 11 million dollars.
Citizens may speak about the bridge at a public hearing April second.
