A Roanoke man was shot and killed last night by police officers responding to a domestic dispute.
Police say 35- year- old Edwin Plunkett was raising a loaded rifle when they fired the fatal shots.
But the woman who called police says Plunkett did not deserve to die.
Joe Dashiell has the story.

Police were called to the home in the 100 block of Cherryhill Circle shortly after six p-m... when a woman dialed 9-1-1 and said she was being beaten.
By the time officers arrived, Billie Patton had run next door and dialed 9-1-1 a second time.
Plunkett's fiancee acknowledges he had been drinking and did pick up the rifle from behind the door, but she says he never pointed the weapon toward the officers.

State police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in Franklin County last night.
They say 32-year-old Russell Lanier Bowers of Martinsville was standing on Route 890 when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Noel Lee Reed.
Bowers later died at the hospital.

Rescuers removed the bodies of two people buried in an avalanche on New Hampshire's Mount Washington yesterday.

At least four deaths are reported in two separate accidents on highways covered with snow.
Strong winds are creating white-out conditions and hundreds of miles of I-80, as well as Interstates 90 and 94 in the Dakotas are closed.
Forecasters expect the snow to move into the upper Midwest this morning.

Tomorrow astronauts Linda Godwin and Rich Clifford leave shuttle Atlantis for a six-hour space walk.
