Roanoke County's experiment with curbside recycling may be history.
Supervisors say the cost of expanding the program is prohibitive, and
they're proposing a different approach.
(----------------)
VO-NAT
SUPER=03-Roanoke Co./File Tape;
Roanoke County has offered curbside recycling on a limited basis since 1988,
but the program has been extended to only ten percent of the county's
residents.
Faced with the cost of replacing a worn- out truck and expanding the
program county- wide, some supervisors believe there's a better alternative:
Sorting recyclables at the trash transfer station or the landfill.
