The Roanoke County registrar is reporting a light to moderate turnout this
afternoon in the county's bond issue referendum.
One in five registered voters had made it to the polls by mid-afternoon.

man after a 70 mile highway chase.
Then another deputy slams a woman's face against a truck.

A Bedford County man remains in custody after leading police on a high speed
chase through central Virginia last night.

20 year old Lewis Arthur Carroll was arrested after he crashed a stolen car
on Route 221 last night.
A Lynchburg officer spotted the vehicle at a Fort Avenue convenience store
and gave chase.
The pursuit wound through three jurisdictions, reaching speeds of close to
100 miles an hour.

man in connection with some recent church robberies.

more likely to have high blood pressure than older men.

Jack Kevorkian may have support coming from potential jurors.
One hundred prospective jurors are being questioned today.
Several expressed strong support for assisted suicide and for Kevorkian.
Meanwhile Kevorkian claims he is a victim of corruption.

Kevorkian's on trial for the deaths of two women.
Meanwhile in New York State a federal appeals court strikes down a ban on
doctor assisted suicide.
The court says doctors may prescribe lethal drugs for patients who are
terminaly ill but mentally competent.
Just recently another federal appeals court in Washington State ruled in a
case that there is a constitutional right to assisted suicide.
Roanoke County Police are trying to track down a local man who MIGHT be
connected to a string of church robberies.
46 year old Martin Freeman has not been accused in any of the recent thefts,
but he does match the description of a man who fled some of the robbery scenes.
Although he hasn't been charged with these recent crimes, police say he IS
accused of several other crimes across the region.

Just two days ago union workers at Kroger voted to go on strike.
But they're bagging that idea.
More than 14 hundred members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union
cast ballots on a REVISED offer from the supermarket chain.

A team of international scientists have made a major breakthrough in the
search for a male contraceptive pill.
Testosterone injections can be 98-point-six percent effective as a male
contraceptive, according to a new study.
The World Health Organization studied some 400 couples in 15 cities for two
and a half years.

for the area's mentally retarded.
The all- volunteer organization is known as "Christian Training for the
Retarded" or C-T-R.
Services are every Saturday morning and include bible study and singing.

Valley View Mall than any other part of the city.
