Voters in Roanoke County say "no" to a proposed 37- point- four million
dollar school bond referendum that called for the construction of a new high
school.

thousand 334 "no" votes, and 7-thousand 94 "yes" votes.

Meadville (MEED-vill) Forging Company will build a 600- thousand square foot
facility in Buchanan.
Meadville plans to initially hire seventy- five employees, but that number
could eventually increase to 125 workers.
The Buchanan plant will use computer- controlled robotics to produce steel
forgings for use in automobiles.
In other words, Meadville can be described as a modern- day blacksmith
operation.

At a hearing last week, Radford Community Hospital complained about the
memo, in which Gene Wright offered 20 dollars to employees who brought him
petitions supporting RADFORD'S plans for a new hospital.
In a news release, Wright said "in reviewing the game film of this call...I
would do that one differently."
The hospitals are competing to build a new facility in the Radford area.
Wright said he reacted to what he perceived as heavy- handed attempts by
Carilion to inflate support for its project.

high school has been rejected by Roanoke County voters.

The final results of last night's vote, with all 32 precincts reporting,
were 9- thousand 334 "no" votes, and 7-thousand 94 "yes" votes.

Here now is a breakdown by voting districts:
In Catawba the referendum is overwhelmingly rejected, 2-thousand 582 "no" to
408 "yes."
The same is true in Hollins: 2-thousand 230 "no" and 574 "yes."
The referendum is supported in Windsor Hills, 2-thousand 902 "yes" votes and
1-thousand 649 "no."
The measure was defeated in Vinton. The tally 1-thousand 431 "no" and 517
"yes."
In Cave Spring, the site for the proposed school, the vote was 2-thousand
693 "yes" and 1-thousand 442 "no."
