Doctors tonight say Bradley can not move the right side of his body.
Bradley was the city's first black mayor.

Fire damaged a home in the Green Hill Section of Roanoke County today.

Firefighters were called to Lily Drive around 3:45 this afternoon.
Several rooms were gutted as the flames burned through the roof.
One firefighter was knocked down by falling debris, but he did not suffer
any serious injuries.
No one else was hurt.
Damage to the home was extensive.
There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.

Firefighters were called to this mobile home park on Camp Avenue around
1:30.
Authorities say 50-foot flames were shooting from the trailer when they
arrived.
The trailer was gutted... no one was home when the blaze broke out.

Meanwhile investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a blaze
that heavily damaged another Lynchburg home last night.
The blaze at 8-10 Wise Street began in the back of the building, but

The college that's scheduled to close its doors in Buena Vista in just six
weeks could re-open with twice the financial impact on the community.
That's according to a source close to the college-- if a Mormon group
that's eyeing the Southern Virginia College signs a deal in the next six weeks.
The investors say they are NOT acting on behalf of the Church of Jesus
Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

Even so, its members tell College officials they'd like to convert the
women's two year school into a four year co-ed college.
The school would cater to both Mormon students and those who want a
non-sectarian education.
A spokesman for the College says board members will meet again to consider

Jail overcrowding is a serious problem in Martinsville.

The current jail was built to house 18 inmates but today holds an average of
45.
That's not counting the 50 inmates at the city work farm, nor the 23 held in
neighboring jurisdictions at a cost of 40 dollars an inmate.
Today city council got a close look at two proposals for a new jail.
One calls for a 90 bed facility.
But Sheriff Steve Draper says even that's just not enough room.
He says the area needs a jail twice that size.

Each year, almost five-thousand American women die of cervical cancer.
Now, a panel of experts says virtually all the deaths can be prevented by
routine Pap smears and by safe sex.

The National Institutes of Health found that about half of the women
diagnosed with cervical cancer in the United States have never had a Pap test.
Properly performed, the test can detect abnormal cells before they become
cancerous.
The N-I-H also says virtually all cervical cancers are related to infection
by a sexually-transmitted disease known as H-P-V-- which can be prevented by
the use of condoms.

Health Districts and several hospitals.
They're trying to improve mammography access in Southwest Virginia, where a
1993 survey showed less than 25 percent of women undergo reccommended
screenings.

Appointments may be made through local health departments, the unit visits

The American Cancer Society recommends screenings at least every two years

Too much of a good thing, even against the likes of lice, can be a
dangerous thing.
The F-D-A is warning parents not to overuse the prescription drug lindane
to fight head lice.
While the drug works well when used as directed-- apparently some parents
get overzealous with it.
Lindane can cause nerve damage, especially in babies.
The F-D-A says the treatment shouldn't be used at all unless other, less
risky, lice medicines fail to work.
The official alert follows a consumer group's effort to ban Lindane
outright.

A few minutes ago Robin told you about the cold air headed our way in the next
few days.
Well, some of it is coming from Chicago where the wind was gusting up to 30
miles an hour today, and most the game between the Cubs and Dodgers was played
in the snow!!!
The Cubs fell behind early but then roared back with Ryne Sandberg hitting a
two run homer to right center in the third.
The shot plates Kevin Foster and gets Chicago within one run at 3-to-2.
Then in the fourth the Cubs would blow the game wide open with seven runs.
Mark Grace would get it started with a two run single that chases home Foster
and Brian McRae.
The Cubs just beat the Dodgers a few minutes ago 9-to-4.

Down in Charlotte where things were much warmer today UNC-Charlotte named
Melvin Watkins the school's new head basketball coach.
Watkins who is a longtime assistant replaces Jeff Mullins, who retired
