It took them more than an hour to bring the fire under control, and

inhalation.
The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause.

State police have completed an investigation into a student's allegation
she was raped by two Virginia Tech football players.
They've turned the results over to Montgomery County Commonwealth's
Attorney Phil Keith.
He says he'll decide by next week whether there is a criminal case to
prosecute.

The investigation comes a year-and-a-half after Christy Brzonkala
claims she was raped by James Crawford and Tony Morrison.
Brzonkala has filed a federal lawsuit against Virginia Tech, the two players
and a third player she claims witnessed the attack.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating a fatal
backhoe accident in Christiansburg.

Three men were repairing the vehicle yesterday at an industrial machine
repair shop on Roanoke Street.
The backhoe rolled and crushed one of the men to death.
No one else was injured.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim.

Fire officials are trying to find out what caused the blaze that nearly
destroyed a home in downtown Lynchburg last night.

The blaze at 8-10 Wise Street was reported just after nine.
The first crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the back
of the two-story structure.
It took them more than an hour to bring the fire under control, and
authorities say they did well just to save the building.
The residents of the home escaped the blaze, but one child suffered smoke
inhalation.

The Vancouver Grizzlies have ended their 23-game losing streak with a win
over Minnesota.
The Grizzlies fell one short of the N-B-A's all-time record for consecutive
losses.
