(( Jessica Dubroff had all the confidence of a 7-year old with a mission, as she strolled onto the tarmac yesterday in Half Moon Bay, California to begin her trip.
As her friends and family gave her goodbye hugs, no one expected it would be the last time they'd see her alive. Jessica, her father Lloyd and flight instructor Joe Reid were all killed when the single engine Cessna Cardinal crashed just after take off this morning in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The weather may have been a contributing factor.
JOHN POWERS, CHEYENNE POLICE CHIEF: WINDY, HAIL, RAINING, PRETTY NASTY CONDITIONS.

The plane barely missed hitting homes in the residential neighborhood where it went down nose first.
NO NAME, PLANE WAS CLEARLY IN TROUBLE, COULDN'T GET ALTITUDE

At 4-feet, 2-inches tall, Jessica had to sit on cushions to see out the plane's window, and have extenders to reach the pedals. early yesterday, as she prepped her plane for the cross-country trip, she spoke of the joy of flying.
JESSICA DUBROFF: IT'S LIKE FLOATING... UP IN THE AIR.

Jessica hoped to become the youngest pilot every to fly cross-country. but the Guiness Book of World Records had stopped recognizing that catagory for fear of encouraging unsafe flights. Indeed, many are asking today what a 7-year old child was doing behind the controls of an airplane. On the CBS broadcast Up To the Minute yesterday, this was her father's answer to that.
LLOYD DUBROFF/FATHER: MY VIEW.. EACH AND EVERY FAMILY HAS THE RIGHT TO DECIDE HOW TO RAISE THEIR CHILDREN... PARTICIPATE IN.

But whether that includes allowing a 7-year old child to pilot a plane in rain, wind and hail will be something for investigators to determine. Because for this child and her family, the adventure of a lifetime has turned into a horrible tragedy.))
