Israeli helicopter gunships have attacked suspected Muslim guerrilla positions in the suburbs of Lebanon.

It's the FIRST time Israel has struck so close to the Lebanese capital in 13 years, and is seen as a SERIOUS escalation of the conflict along Israel's northern border.
The attack follows several days of rocket attacks by Hezbollah guerrillas against Israeli troops and villages along the border, and Israeli counterattacks.
Dozens of people are said to have been wounded on both sides of the border, including two Lebanese soldiers.

Governor Allen is accusing the Democrat-controlled General Assembly of trying to undermine his line-item veto power by submitting only a PORTION of the state budget to him.
Allen returned the bill to the General Assembly late last night with a proposed amendment.
The amendment says the budget will become law ONLY if the assembly resubmits the ENTIRE spending plan and he signs it.

Also last night, the Governor approved FULL funding for Radford University's new Waldron School of Nursing.
The Governor's spokesman says a phone conversation between Allen and Radford president Douglas Covington convinced Allen the project was worthwhile.
Radford officials were concerned after the Governor's office began questioning the expense last week.
Fellow Republican lawmakers, Tommy Baker and Bo Trumbo went on a P-R blitz to keep the seven million dollar building in the budget.
Radford's proposed College of Global Studies fell to the Governor's budget ax last year.

He said that "partial birth abortions" should NOT be a part of the abortion debate.

Frank Neutze shot himself right after he shot his wife.
He died an hour later.
Miriam, or "Betty" Neutze was suffering from a heart condition and a variety of other medical problems, none of them life threatening.
She had been in Lewis Gale's rehabilitation unit since January 30th.
She had been confined to a wheelchair.
Lewis Gale says it hasn't put any new security measures in place in reaction to Tuesday's incident.
But a spokesman says the hospital constantly evaluates its procedures regarding safety.

Emergency crews had a tough time getting to-- and leaving the crash site because the road was narrow.

Adding to their paranoia is a tenacious detective played by Kathy Bates.
This '96 version of Diabolique, adds up to a different version of the '55 classic. ((IT ISN'T LIKE YOU BURNT THE TOAST, MIA. YOU KILLED YOUR HUSBAND. IT'S A LITTLE OFF THE CHART, DEMERIT WISE. UNDERSTAND? THIS IS A DAY LIKE ANY OTHER DAY. WE DID WHAT WE HAD TO DO AND ITS DONE. IT WAS SELF DEFENSE.))
To say more would spoil some of the plot twists, but for fans of the clouzot original, a warning. The ending has been changed ludicrous and is more "Halloween" than Hitchcockian.
Even at that, the movie gets a "B-" if only for Stones' poisonous clothes and over the top performance.))

Child Molester Larry Don McQuay has committed himself to surgical castration.

The surgery could take place as soon as two weeks to a month from now.
Meantime, a former prison cellmate is accusing McQuay of having sex with HIV positive inmates.
Texas officials are investigating the allegations.
They say if McQuay had sexual relations in prison, that could be grounds for putting him back behind bars.

A source says investigators have been looking into the failed love life of Unabomber suspect Theodore Kaczynski (kah-ZIHN'-skee).
The source says Kaczynski had a difficult breakup with a female co-worker in 19-78.

It's not clear whether the breakup occurred before that attack in May of 19-78.
Another part of investigation involves simulating some of the Unabomber's lethal devices.

Frank Neutze shot himself right after he shot his wife.
He died an hour later.
Miriam, or "Betty" Neutze was suffering from a heart condition and a variety of other medical problems, none of them life threatening.
She had been in Lewis Gale's rehabilitation unit since January 30th.
She had been confined to a wheelchair.
Lewis Gale says it hasn't put any new security measures in place in reaction to Tuesday's incident.
But a spokesman says the hospital constantly evaluates its procedures regarding safety.
