Innotech Incorporated's framed a plan to hire hundreds of new employees at
its Roanoke headquarters and in Petersburg.

So Len, how many jobs are we talking about here?
Jean Innotech says by the year 2000 it hopes to hire 550 people in Roanoke
and 450 workers in Petersburg.
The company has developed a new way to make eyeglass lenses.

A Rustburg man is in custody after a botched bank robbery this morning in
34 year old Troy Nathan Jennings was hauled out of the First Federal Savings
bank after fighting with bank employees and police.
Authorities say Jennings walked into the bank, shoved a teller out of the
way and started taking money from the drawers.

The manager and a male customer locked the suspect in the vault while they
waited for police.
Officers had to use chemical spray to subdue Jennings.

Democratic multi-millionaire Mark Warner appears to have a delegate- lock on
Today, he filed a campaign finance report showing his campaign raised 257-
thousand dollars in the last quarter, and has 107-thousand on hand.
Underdog opponent Leslie Byrne released NO information in time for this
Republican U-S Senator John Warner says he's raised 484-thousand dollars so
far in 1996, and has 778-thousand dollars still on hand.
His GOP opponent, Jim Miller delayed the release of his finance form today.
But Miller did turn over his personal tax forms for the last 11 years and
challenged Warner to do the same.
Warner's campaign did NOT, but pointed out that former Reagan budget
director Miller is filing for an extension this year-- and has done so before.
Miller says the duties of the campaign trail have kept him from his taxes
Republican George Landrith is using the public's focus on Tax Day as a
Landrith is seeking the Republican nomination for Congress in the Fifth
This morning, he made a campaign stop in Danville where he pledged to never
vote to raise taxes.
The Republican convention is still a month away-- but Landrith says it's
never too early to begin campaigning.

The number of people who need organ transplants has reached a new high.
That's according to the United Network for Organ Sharing, based in Richmond.
About 20-thousand organ transplants were performed around the country last
The national waiting list last year reached a record 43-thousand.
Currently there are more than 45-thousand-600 patients on the waiting
A new name is added to the list every 18 minutes.
And it's not just ORGAN donations that are needed-- but also bone marrow.
Each year, about 30-thousand Americans are diagnosed with serious blood
diseases-- like leukemia and aplastic anemia.
For many, the only hope is a bone marrow transplant.
Most patients cannot find proper matches within their families-- so they
count on the kindness of others, to act as marrow donors.
With us in the studio to discuss these efforts is Steve Lovelace, the new
director of the Marrow Donor Center of the Virginias.

A rapid pulse rate during a treadmill test is a time-proven sign a patient
may have coronary problems.
Now, though, a study suggests a LOW rate may also indicate trouble-- in
the form of an increased risk of heart attack.
The researchers from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation say by considering
the stress-test heart-rate, ALONG WITH the electrocardiogram and blood
pressure, physicians should get a better picture of a patient's risk.
The study is reported in the journal "Circulation."

Bob Herbert says Roanoke neighborhoods will benefit from his latest

Jean, the city manager unveiled a 152- million dollar spending plan that
maintains services and current tax rates.
The proposal includes funding for a new rental inspection program...
And it also calls for a change in trash collection that will provide each
household in the city with a roll- out trash container.
