A federal judge has dismissed a challenge to the state's open primary law.
U-S District Judge Richard Williams said today that state G-O-P chairman
Patrick McSweeney and Republican Delegate Robert Marshall lacked standing to
bring the lawsuit.
Party conservatives are concerned Senator John Warner will benefit by
crossover voting from Democrats and independents in the primary.
They want to choose the Republican Senate nominee at a state convention,
where Warner opponents would have a stronger voice.
McSweeney indicated he may appeal.
