Actually it might be time for Bob Dole to come to Roanoke.
In a Clinton-Dole matchup, 45- percent of Virginia voters polled this month like Bob Dole, 43- percent like Bill Clinton, and 12- percent are undecided.
That's a dead heat with a three-and-a-half percent margin of error.
Now compare it to October of last year, when Dole had a more meaningful seven point lead over Clinton.
15- percent were undecided then.
The good news for Dole in the Old Dominion is that only 44- percent of Virginia voters think Clinton's doing a good or excellent job at a time when the President is at a high point in national polls.
More bad news for Dole though if this man enters the race.
Ross Perot pulls just six- percent support in Virginia, but Dole's lead over Clinton shrinks to 43-42, and nine percent are still undecided.
And what if Virginia's long shot ticket mate enters the race on the Dole ticket?
52- percent of Virginians say George Allen should accept the V.P. slot if offered by Dole.
He'd give Dole a marginal boost in Virginia.
SOT STANDUP
