Police say the six year old and two eight year olds found the newborn asleep in his bassinet. While a babysitter was in another room, the child was attacked, and nearly killed. The six year old is in custody charged with attempted murder and burglary. But the boy's attorney says she can't tell if he understands what's happening to him.

A single car accident in Henry County this afternoon leaves two dead.
Police say a rented Dodge Stratus was traveling on 220 south in the Oak Level area.
It was zig-zagging at high speeds when it ran off the right side of the road.
A man and a woman were killed when the car hit two large trees.
Their names are not being released pending notification of family.

Two employees at a Martinsville hospital are under arrest for their alleged role in an emergency disaster drill.
The warrants stem from complaints filed by four nurses who say they were traumatized by the mock hostage situation at Memorial Hospital.

During the drill, those playing the role wore ski masks and reportedly pointed weapons at the nurses.
The drill was intended to test the staff's ability to handle a "real" hostage situation.
But the nurses say they were never warned that it was only a drill.

Security Director Manuel Bledsoe, Junior was arrested for aiding and abetting.
Security Guard John Wayne Cassell is facing the same charge as well as brandishing a firearm.

Ferrum's Bill Pullen resigned as the Panthers head basketball coach today.

Pullen is giving up his post to pursue a career in the insurance business.
In 11 seasons at the Ferrum helm Pullen compiled 148 wins and 137 losses. He led the Panthers to Dixie conference regular season titles in 1992, 93, and 95. His 92 team reached the NCAA Division three tournament.

One Athlete competing is Glenvar's Trish Nervo. Nervo finished third in a national cross country meet in San Diego and will run for North Carolina next year.
Nervo will run the mile and two mile events and her focus is meet records in both events.

They're too young for adult nightspots-- and too old for playgrounds.
But a Martinsville coffee shop owner is serving up a nightclub especially for teens.

But two months ago, the basement of Jacc's Coffee Shop was transformed into Jacc's Lower Level-- an entertaining, yet safe haven for teens.

Leath oversees her young patrons-- ages 13 and up.
The club's rules are clear-- no alcohol, no drugs, and no under- aged smoking.
Local police also patrol regularly.
But Leath's customers respect her rules-- and are just grateful for a place to hang out.
