The two were charged Monday night after a deputy spotted the couple and
another woman sitting in a car with crack cocaine and pipes used to smoke it.

Halifax County's Superintendent of schools was as surprised as anyone by
news of the arrest.
37- year old Dorothy Ferrell taught second grade at Halifax Elementary for
40- year old Jerry Ragsdale was a custodian there.
Dr. Walker says the school system is allowed to conduct random searches of
some employees, such as bus drivers.
But teachers are exempt.

without pay for criminal charges.
Elizabeth Brade--a teacher at Halifax County High school was charged earlier
this year with 68- counts of writing back checks.

Prosecutors say she was supporting a substance abuse problem.

The suspects in the Oklahoma Bombing case are in court today-

The mother and stepfather have not been charged- and there are other

It was March sixth, when ten-year-old Josh Carlisle vanished.
He survived three days in the cold with the help of two stray dogs.
The man who found him is not a suspect.

someone deliberately set this fire, but do they know why?

released his report yesterday on the Lukens fire he said the investigation
continues, but would not talk about possible suspects or motives.

Fire investigators say an arsonist using techniques they'd never seen before
set the blaze that gutted the historic structure.
While their investigation continues, the site remains filled with blackened

plan for cleaning it up... so far nothing's been done, and city crews are
preparing to do the job themselves, then send the bill to Halstead.

The vice-chairman of the Montgomery County republican party wants a shot
at unseating ninth district congressman Rick Boucher.
31 year old Thomas DeBusk announced his candidacy for the G-O-P nomination
He was campaign manager two years ago for Steve Fast. That's who Boucher
defeated for re-election.
This is DeBusk's first time out as a candidate, but he says he's already
been working to gather support.

Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer's belongings could go up for auction- but talk
of an auction is causing a stir in Milwaukee.
Lawyers for the victim's families say there may not be an auction at all.
Among the items possibly going up for bids- knives along with the
refrigerator used to store the victims' heads.
Dahmer killed 17 young men and boys, some he mutilated and cannibalized.
Dahmer was beaten to death by a prison inmate in 1994.
A judge ordered his belongings sold last week to compensate the victims'
families- The auction was organized after that.
The price of the items: one million dollars even though the items are
valued at only about 100 thousand.
The attorney notes the recent Jackie Kennedy auction in New York.

State health officials say 80-percent of live births to Virginia's teens
during 1993 were out of wedlock.
In fact, Roanoke City alone has twice the state rate for teen pregnancies.
On the other hand, Craig County has the lowest teen pregnancy rate in the

Other studies find two-thirds of all cases of sexually transmitted diseases
occur in people under age 25.

in Roanoke County Schools dealing with the law and children.
This one is taught by police.
The program is called "Youth for Justice".
Sixth graders at Northside Middle School are given an opportunity to
evaluate current laws to see if they're necessary.

But the new owner said she was going to wipe the slate clean... and make
