A four year- old girl who was rescued from a pond yesterday after more than
an hour under water has died.
Jaimee Lynn Dieahm of Christiansburg fell into a pond where she'd been
playing with several older children.
Authorities say the other kids try to use a stick to pull her out, but she
wasn't able to hold on.
Two Christiansburg police officers dove into the water.
Rescuers revived the child after Sergeant Hank Epperly located her and
pulled her out.
She spent the night on life support and died this morning.

Police say a train that struck and killed a Halifax County man had just left
a nearby power plant.

The accident happened around 8:15 last night in the town of Clover.
Authorities say 52- year old Jimmy Guthrie was sitting on the tracks and
apparently did not hear the train.
Police and Norfolk Southern officials were at the site investigating this
afternoon.
The train, which was carrying empty cars, was travelling West at about 20-
miles an hour.
Guthrie died later at the hospital.
