One of two students who accused Virginia Tech football player George DelRicco
of assaulting him has, himself, been found guilty of assault and battery.
Montgomery County District Judge Thomas Frith fined Jesse Phillips 250 dollars
for hitting DelRicco over the head with a beer bottle at a Blacksburg bar
called Top of the Stairs.
In a separate case, the judge is still hearing testimony that the feud may
have led to a fight outside the same bar three weeks later. Philips and his
roommate, Sean Elko, claim DelRicco, Tech quarterback Jim Druckenmiller and two
brothers, John and Chris Bishock, jumped them.
Philips and Elko both needed surgery for facial injuries.

in struck a fence and overturned.
State Police say 19- year old Mathew Lee Montgomery died at the scene.
Montgomery was a passenger in a 1993 Chevrolet Barretta driven by Eric Wayne

The accident happened around 8:20 on Route 863.

In Blacksburg, police managed to avoid a shootout with a Virginia Tech
student who pointed a gun at them this morning.
Officers heard gunshots when they responded to reports of fireworks on a
walking trail between Janie Lane and University Village Trailer Park.
Police say they spoke to a man who rounded the corner as they approached a
home on Janie Lane.
20 year- old Jon Christopher Overton allegedly pointed a shotgun at the
officers, then ran when they told him to drop it.
Overton is charged with brandishing a firearm and discharging a firearm
within town limits.

A woman who was shot in the leg by a Christiansburg police officer last
month has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm.
Officers responded to 9-1-1 call from a woman threatening suicide at Old
Farm Village- One apartments.
Police say Stella Arcaro advanced on them with a gun, prompting Officer
Alicia Smith to shoot.
Montgomery County Commonwealth's Attorney Phil Keith reviewed the results of
a state police investigation and ruled that Smith acted properly.

Two boys who set off a homemade bomb at Floyd County High School have each
been convicted of a felony.

conspiracy and pension theft charges.
The U-S attorney's office says McLain and his partner Roger Smigiel purchased
Chesaning's Peet Packing Company in 1984 they named themselves trustees of the

They then transferred 12 million dollars of the fund to a bank and used
three million of it for their personal and company use.
