CHIEF R.D. PAULISON, METRO DADE FIRE RESCUE, "WE'VE FOUND NO BODY PARTS,
NO BODIES.
It is now apparent that all 109 people on board ValueJet flight 592 were
either incinerated or swallowed up by the sawgrass and muck that is estimated
to be 40 feet thick in some spots.
And somewhere down there is the jet's flight recorder, which could give the
best evidence to the cause of the crash.
Value Jet president Lewis Jordan once again sought to insure the families of
the victims and the riding public that despite problems in the past, his
airline is as safe as any other.
LEWIS JORDAN, VALUEJET PRESIDENT, "IF VALUEJET AIRLINES HAD ANY REASON
TO BELIEVE... GROUND IT.
FAA records show this particular plane had returned to airports seven times
over the past two years because of various maintenance problems.
Over the next week, the NTSB will have the daunting task of finding out what
made flight 592 go down.
They are considering draining the water out of this part of the everglades
to make digging through the muck easier.
And at churches across the Miami area, special prayers were said for the
crash victims, as Mother's Day 1996 became a day of mourning for 109 families.
