The Senate majority leader has scheduled an afternoon press conference.
G-O-P sources say he'll give up the Senate seat from Kansas that he's held

Relatives of those lost aboard ValuJet flight 5-92 will visit the crash site
today, as investigators begin to get a clearer picture of what may have caused
Saturday's crash in the Florida Everglades.
And Valujet is being put under the microscope.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced this morning it wants to
review all maintenance records on ValuJet planes.
There will also be new inspections of the aircraft, and inspectors will show
up on ValuJet flights.

Another day of searching has begun, in the murky waters of the everglades
near miami.
Floating platforms are now in place to hold pieces of wreckage
recovered from the muck. the main target of the search is the cockpit voice
recorder.
Investigators now believe there may have been explosion on valujet
flight 592, based on information they retrieved from the flight data recorder.

While they're not speculating on what might have caused an explosion, the
plane was carrying 50 or 60 emergency oxygen generators, which have been known
to explode in ground incidents according to the new york times. in

andit appears that an infant not listed on the flight manifest increases the
death toll to 110. the first flowers have appeared near the crash site. to
appease family members of the victims, they will be taken by bus to the area
later today for a short memorial service.

A special prosecutor says he will NOT bring charges against the former Salem
councilman for allegedly taking more money from the Salem Rescue Squad.
