Colorado state Senator Charles Duke says
negotiators have reached a verbal agreement with the anti-government
This could bring and end to the 55-day standoff between the F-B-I and the
group holed up on a Montana farm.
The deal still has to be approved by high F-B-I officials possibly even by U-S
Attorney General Janet Reno.
The proposal came from the Freemen.
Duke says it has a 50-50 chance of being approved by federal officials.
South Korea is drawing a line in the sand after the latest buffer-zone

Two people were transported to the hospital tonight after driving into a
creek in Northwest Roanoke County.
It happened after the driver of a Dodge Neon ran off the 51- hundred block
of Bradshaw Road around 9:30.
The driver and passenger were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Police have not released their names.
The injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
In Natural Bridge four people were sent to the hospital following a two-
vehicle accident this afternoon.
A Mississippi man remains in critical condition.
His wife was driving southbound on Route 11 when their car ran off the road.
She swerved back onto the road, crossing into the northbound lane striking a

Still, Landrith denies his nomination has hurt the party.

Bob Goodlatte did not face opposition for the nomination for the sixth
district congressional seat. Republicans made it official today at the
convention held near Harrisonburg.
But Democrats have picked a candidate to challenge him in November.
Political newcomer Jeff Grey is hoping to unseat Goodlatte.
The Telecommications repairman says his community leadership gives him a
strong background to get the job done in Washington.

Today the 13-member committee introduced Janet Rasmussen (RAS-muss-in) as
the new president of the college.
Rasmussen received advanced degrees from Harvard University.
She is leaving her position as Vice President of Academic Affairs at
Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

Sandy Level residents started a week long clean up this morning.
Recently a national magazine printed a story detailing the community's
struggle with drugs and crime.
Today residents were out in force to save their neighborhood.
First they demolished the former-- "Victory Word of Faith Mission."
They say the burned out church had become a drug haven.

Trucks will haul the trash away next week.
The sheriff's department is also seeking federal aid which will allow them

Dozens of people stopped by the Community Funeral Home this morning to
exchange unwanted guns for gift certificates from local merchants.
Organizers say while people enjoy getting something in return, many of them

John is taking a Fire Cadet class.
The Roanoke City Fire Department started the curriculum three years ago to
attract women and minorities.
Instructor Thomas Tyree tries to teach these seniors about fighting fires as
well as rescue techniques used at car accidents.

Hundreds of boaters on Smith Mountain Lake caught the big one today.
700 volunteers spent the day pulling trash and huge logs from the lake.
It all was a part of Smith Mountain Lake clean up day.
Workers say this year the amount of trash and floating logs has increased.
Heavy rains have not only filled the lake to full pond, but it also
transported things like tires and barrels into the lake.

Carl Brodt says there never is a shortage of volunteers.
He says everyone seems to realize a clean lake is not only environmentally

Another crash at Indy today. Rookie driver Dan Drinan hit the wall during
