Police in Tyler, Texas are investigating any links between a man charged
with capital murder in his mother's death and the deaths of 12 women in
Richmond.
The man, Karl (Smi- TANA) Smetana, used to live in Richmond.
Authorities have NOT named (smi- TANA) Smetana as a suspect in the Richmond
slayings, but they are following up on leads.
The 26-year-old was charged Saturday with murdering his mother, 50-year-old
Margaret Hewes Lout.
He allegedly told police he strangled her to exorcise the demons from her
body.
Richmond police have been investigating a string of slayings of women in
their mid-50s and older.

But County Administrator Jerry Burgess points to an independent study,
showing that traffic will not be significantly affected.
For all of the nay-sayers, there were plenty of people on hand supporting
the 11- million dollar project.
Initial plans show it will eventually be home to an elementary school, a
recreation area and a massive business and office park... spanning 150 acres.
Burgess is hopeful the county will receive Federal and state grants for the
project.
Construction could start as early as this winter.

The school has four paid teachers, and this year 31 students in grades K
through four.
Besides paying tuition, parents work a minimum of one hour a week, doing
everything from cleaning the building to serving as teachers aides.
suWith the debate over public funding for charter schools, this is a school
that's survived 25 years without it. And if public funds were to become
available, it's questionable whether the parents here would even want it.
