Police in Tyler, Texas are investigating any links between a man charged with capital murder in his mother's death and the deaths of 12 women in Richmond.
The man, Karl (Smi- TANA) Smetana, used to live in Richmond.
Authorities have NOT named (smi- TANA) Smetana as a suspect in the Richmond slayings, but they are following up on leads.
The 26-year-old was charged Saturday with murdering his mother, 50-year-old Margaret Hewes Lout.
He allegedly told police he strangled her to exorcise the demons from her body.
Richmond police have been investigating a string of slayings of women in their mid-50s and older.

A fire forces 14 teenagers out of their group home in Floyd County.

The blaze broke out early yesterday morning.
When firefighters got to the Tekoa Group Home, they found flames shooting through the roof.
A light bulb apparently set some bed sheets on fire.
So far it appears accidental.

The school has four paid teachers, and this year 31 students in grades K through four.
Besides paying tuition, parents work a minimum of one hour a week, doing everything from cleaning the building to serving as teachers aides. suWith the debate over public funding for charter schools, this is a school that's survived 25 years without it. And if public funds were to become available, it's questionable whether the parents here would even want it.
