A diving accident claims the life of a teenager in Giles County tonight.
And on this Memorial Day weekend, Roanokers pay tribute to Emergency
Services Workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

A teenager from Narrows is dead following a diving accident this evening.
Giles County Rescue Squad Lieutenant Rodney Freeman says the victim slipped
as he was preparing to dive off a cliff into Wolf Creek.
He hit his head on some rocks on the way down, and plunged about 30 feet
into the water.
Freeman says a friend pulled the victim out of the water and started C-P-R.
It happened just before eight o-clock at a popular swimming area off route
The victim was pronounced dead at Giles Memorial Hospital almost two hours
Police have not released the victim's name.
On this Memorial Day weekend, men and women from 15 states were honored in
Roanoke tonight for their bravery and courage.
A packed house gathered at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church to pay
tribute to 33 Emergency Medical Service providers.
The 33 men and women have died in recent years, assisting sick or injured

A drive-by shooting suspect is still at large.
Radford Police are looking for the person who injured three people from
Roanoke last night.
According to police the victims were in their car at the intersection of
Wadsworth and Rock Roads.
They told police they noticed a gray hatchback behind them, then heard
24 year- old Traci Waldron, her two year- old son, and 22-year old Clifton
Hollande all suffered gunshot wounds in their arms.
Police say the hatchback turned left onto Rock Road and drove away.
Waldron also turned, but wrecked her car near Fletcher Road.
All three victims were treated for their injuries and released.
Police are looking for the driver of the gray hatchback.
A 65-year- old Roanoke man has been missing since Wednesday morning.
And Roanoke Police are asking for your help in finding Clarence R. Morgan.
Apparently Morgan left his home around eight to catch a bus to downtown
Roanoke, and hasn't been seen since.
Morgan is a white man, with blue eyes and wears glasses.
He's five- foot -7 and weighs 165 pounds.
Morgan has sandy brown hair and is balding.
He was not wearing his dentures.
Morgan was last seen wearing Khaki pants and a pale- yellow button down
His family says he needs medicine for a medical condition and he may be

Today Nancy Mellette graduated with her class from Oak Ridge Military
Academy in North Carolina.
And she hopes to break the gender barrier and attend college at the Citadel
in South Carolina.
Last year Mellette took Shannon Faulkner's place in a lawsuit challenging
The Citadel's all-male admissions policy.
Faulkner dropped out of the Citadel during her first week at the school.
Mellette's case is still being argued in court.
This morning, members of the Roanoke Valley's Christian community gathered
at Lincoln Terrace Elementary School to take part in the Global March For
Hundreds marched in an effort to show unity and lend hope to residents of
the housing community.
This year organizers chose a high crime area for their march in hopes of
bringing their faith to the housing community.
They say the march is not a protest.
They describe it as an event for all Christians to express a common faith.
And they say they hope marches like this will help break down some barriers

Mark Martin won his fourth Busch race of the season taking the checkered flag

Martin had a strong car this afternoon and he was the leader at the halfway
point averaging just over 160 miles an hour.
The race was caution free until Jeremy Mayfield gets loose hits the wall at
the top of the track and slides down and hits the inside wall on lap 160

Martin made a quick pit stop and he would lead the race the rest of the way
winning his fourth Busch race of the season.
