In Kentucky this morning residents are getting a better look at damage caused by a series of tornadoes that touched down last night.

Businesses south of Louisville suffered heavy damage, and law enforcement officials have blocked access to stricken areas.

The charges surrounded some three million dollars in federally backed loans.. prosecutors claimed and the jury apparently believed were obtained illegally.
Following the verdicts governor tucker announced he would resign to appeal. ARKANSAS GOVERNOR JIM GUY TUCKER: "I CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT EXPECT THE PEOPLE OF OUR STATE TO BEAR THAT BURDEN."
The mcdougals are the one-time whitewater business partners of president bill clinton... the president.. while not a defendant in the trial... was subpoenaed by the McDougal's to rebut claims by former Arkansas judge David Hale.. who alleged then governor clinton pressured him to make illegal loans to susan mcdougal..a claim the president vehemently denied..
Speaking to reporters at the white house.. president clinton refused to speculate on whether the jury believed his testimony. PRESIDENT CLINTON: "ON A PERSONAL LEVEL I'M VERY SORRY FOR TUCKER AND MCDOUGAL BUT THE JURY HAS DECIDED.. I WAS ASKED TO GIVE TESTIMONY I DID THAT FOR ME IT'S TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK."
While refusing to comment on the long-term implications of the verdicts... whitewater independent counsel kenneth starr.. did remind reporters this is not the end of it.. WHITEWATER INDEPENDENT PROSECUTOR KENNETH STARR: "INTERIM REPORT ON WASHINGTON... WE HAVE AN ACTIVE GRAND JURY.. WE DON'T WANT TO COMPROMISE..W E TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME."
While senate whitewater hearings are scheduled to end next month... many wonder what if any further questions will be raised on capitol hill. The white house wants to hammer home the fact the president had notiiog to do with the allegations in this trial... but the administration does have to worry about the momentum the verdicts give whitewater.. something the white house did not want to have to deal with in this election year.

A Wythe County man is shot to death, and the suspect is a convicted killer.

Police say 54-year-old Ronald Lloyd Sutphin (SUT-FIN) shot 31-year old Tony Ray Dunford early yesterday morning.
Dunford died in the hospital five hours after the shooting.

Police say it happened at Suthphin's home in Ivanhoe.
They do not have a motive at this point.
Sutphin was convicted of second degree murder in Grayson County in 1974, but was released after serving less than seven years.

Mowles Springs Park closed in 1994.
Since then, the National Golf Foundation has done a feasibility study on the 250- acre property.

Arkansas Governor Jim Guy Tucker is resigning effective July 15th.
Tucker was convicted yesterday in Little Rock, along with President Clinton's former business partners Susan and James McDougal, for fraud in the Whitewater case.
The jury found guilty verdicts in 24 out of 30 counts of fraud and conspiracy.
All three defendants face prison sentences and all three plan to appeal.
