club saw its second murder in less than five months.

The 16-year old drunk driver who struck and killed a Roanoke County teacher
in December has been released from custody after serving two months.
Tonight, members of the victim's family say they were distressed to learn,
of his release, by chance.

Joe Dashiell is in the newsroom tonight with the story.
Jean, the indeterminate sentence the teenager received could have kept him
in custody until he was 21.
Prosecutors said four months was more likely... but in late May, after
serving just over two months in juvenile detention, the boy was released from
Bonnie Kitts was out for a walk with her husband last December, when she was
struck and killed.
The 16- year- old, who lived in the same neighbordhood, was driving drunk.
The boy lost his driver's license for five years and was ordered to perform
100 hours of community service.
But Gary Kitts says the family was distressed to learn, by chance, of the
young man's release.
In a statement released by his attorney, Kitts says he was very upset that
he wasn't notified by court officials before the juvenile was released.
Learning this information by chance, Kitts said, served to increase the
anguish and distress the Kitts' family has suffered.

And Jean, Kitts says he hopes that in the future, victims of similar crimes
will be receive more consideration.
Partnership leads to an economic boom in Alleghany County.
Economic Development officials say cooperation between local, state and
federal governments made the new Bacova Guild plant a reality.
Company and government officials dedicated the eight and half million dollar
facility this afternoon.
But they started production in the plant in March.

Dalhouse is only retiring from his life as a banker.
He will remain chairman of Shenandoah Life Insurance, and serve on a number
of local commissions.

After a shaky start, responding to stronger than expected employment
figures, Wall Street got back on track.
The Dow closed up nearly 30 points.
NASDAQ lost three points.
The driver of a tractor trailer was pinned in the wreckage this morning when
his rig overturned near Rocky Mount.
But he did not suffer any serious injuries.
The accident happened before eight on the exit ramp from US-220 to Route
40. The truck was the only vehicle involved.
Rescue workers had to free the driver, Theodore L. Campbell of Roanoke. He
was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The owner of an environmental consulting firm in Blacksburg is under
investigation for possibly defrauding the federal government and numerous
Federal authorities raided Environmental Systems and Technologies yesterday.

(( Acting on the testimony of several former employees, special agents of the
Environmental Protection Agency executed a search warrant for records and files
at Environmental Systems and Technologies.
They also raided the Blacksburg home of company president John Parker.
The investigation began a year ago.
According to a search warrant affidavit, former employees say Parker
routinely forced them to alter their time sheets to overbill clients, often
himself adding hours to their time sheets.
It alleges when some projects ran out of money, E-S & T billed other clients
for the time necessary to complete the work by charging labor hours which
employees never put in.
In one instance, the affidavit claims Parker tried to inflate billing by 10
thousand dollars on a federal research grant to Virginia Tech.
In another, it alleges E-S-T submitted false claims on a government
subcontract job, claims which the Environmental Protection Agency eventually

100 golfers representing 10 area clubs are teeing it up through the weekend.
