With 55 percent of the vote counted, Yeltsin leads with 35 percent-- a small margin over his challenger who has 32 percent.
But fifty percent is needed for a victory.

Jeff Gordon dominated the field and he took the checkered flag winning the UAW-GM Teamwork 500 at Pocono this afternoon.

Hut Stricklin led for several laps early in the race but he gets passed here by Mark Martin on lap 41.
Rick Mast was having a strong run he worked his way into the top 10 by passing Dale Earnhardt.
Ricky Rudd also had a strong car as he moves to the front with over 150 laps to go in the 200 lap race.
But Jeff Gordon, Who started on the pole, led 37 laps early in the race and he was the leader at the halfway point.
Then South Boston's Ward Burton had engine trouble and he brings out th third caution while he was running seventh.
Rusty Wallace was the leader with 80 laps to go but while leaving the pits his car slowed forcing him to the garage area. Rusty finished 31-st.
And Dale Earnhardt had engine problems forcing his car out of the race Earnhardt finished 32-nd.
But Gordon had the stuff today he passed Geoff Bodine to take the lead and win the race, the fourth time he's won from the pole.

He's said it before but this time Larry Holmes says his boxing career is over after knocking out journeyman Anthony Willis in the 8-th round.

In the fourth round Willis landed his best punch of the fight a big right hook.
But Holmes known for the hard jab landed a right hook to the side of Willis head sending him to the mat for the 10 count.
The 46 year old Holmes ends his career 65 and 5 with 42 knockouts.

A seven foot snake was loose in Roanoke today.

City Police were dispatched to the "E-Z-N" on Brandon Avenue around six this evening.
A crowd gathered and watched the snake for more than twenty minutes as it slithered around the exterior of the convenience store.
Officer M-G Vineyard finally corralled the snake into a trash can.
An animal control officer arrived later-- he took the snake to the S-P-C-A.
Police say the snake is probably an escaped pet.

Earlier this morning, dispatchers received several calls that a black bear was spotted near the Days Inn on Orange Avenue.
Officers chased the 100 pound bear for about 40 minutes before cornering it in a wooded area on First Street.
Then Animal Control officers tranquilized it with a gun.

Our final animal story this evening is a heart warming one.
A lost dog is on his way back to his owner.
In April, "Pugsy" got lost in Roanoke and ended up at a shelter.

After some searching, shelter workers found "Pugsy's" owner in Germany.
Randy Fair is in the Army and this evening "Pugsy" boards a Delta flight to be reunited with him.
Fair says he has no idea how his dog ended up in Roanoke.
But that doesn't really matter now.
"Pugsy" left Dulles airport this evening en-route to an army base in West Germany. (----------------)
